Blackpine Basin rider desk

Leave the driveway with a plan.

Check the route, weather, machine, group, and turnaround before anyone reaches the trailhead. The safest time to change the day is while every option is still open.

Ghostline ruleIf the report is stale, the weather is worse than expected, or the crew is not ready, choose another route or another day.

Four checks before the first pull

Run these in order. A green trail report does not override a closure, bad weather, a mechanical concern, or a crew that is not ready.

01 / Trail

Read the latest field report

Check the route, timestamp, surface, recent change, and rider advisory.

View trail conditions
02 / Mountain

Verify access and weather

Check the ranger desk, hourly forecast, snow bulletin, and any active closure.

04 / Decision

Name the fallback and turnaround

Choose the easier route, the earlier return, or the day you stay home.

Pack for the stop, not just the ride

Plan for a breakdown after sunset, a rider who gets cold, a machine that needs recovery, and a route that takes longer than expected.

01

Route and turnaround

Share the route, muster, destination, turnaround time, and fallback with someone off the trail.

02

Machine and range

Confirm fuel, fluids, belt, tools, recovery gear, lights, and enough reserve to change the route.

03

Rider and weather

Carry layers, food, water, communication, and shelter for more time than the ride should take.

04

Group expectations

Name the lead, sweep, regroup method, pace, and the condition that turns everyone around.

Check the mountain before the club

A Ghostline field note tells you what one rider or crew observed. Access, weather, snow, and emergency guidance come from the desks responsible for them.

  • Blackpine Pass WeatherHourly forecast updated at 5:00 and 11:00

Use the report, then verify the mountain

Never infer access from an old track, a quiet social feed, or the absence of a closure sign. When sources conflict, follow the most conservative current authority.

One final crew check

Can everyone make the same call?

If the riders disagree about the route, weather, pace, or turnaround, settle it before the first machine starts.
